What is Metered Access Manager and how do I use it?
Metered Access Manager helps you track expiring and expired Metered Access (MA) titles in your collection. You can set criteria for which MA titles should be included, and optionally create carts for repurchasing.
How to create a Metered Access Manager plan
You can create as many Metered Access Manager plans as you'd like. For example, you may want to create plans for different types of MA titles (MA: by time vs. MA: by checkout) or separate plans for expiring and expired titles.
To create a Metered Access Manager plan:
- Sign into OverDrive Marketplace.
- Select the Shop drop-down, then Purchasing tools.
- Click Metered Access Manager.
- Click Create new plan.
- Select the criteria for your Metered Access Manager plan.
- Select Save.
When you save your plan, you'll see a list of titles that meet your selected criteria.
Note: Because titles' lending models may change, the lending models displayed in your plan results or carts may be different from the lending models selected in your plan criteria. Plan results and carts display only lending models currently for sale.
You can view titles in your plan and add titles to carts manually at any time. If you choose to have Metered Access Manager create carts automatically, you'll be notified by email whenever your plan generates a cart.

In the sections below, you'll find tips and recommendations to help you create the best Metered Access Manager plan for your collection.
Title criteria
By default, your plan includes all MA titles that will expire within 30 days or 5 checkouts. You can choose to:
- Include only certain types of MA titles (for example, include only titles in the "MA: by time" lending model).
- Change the number of days or checkouts remaining for titles to be included (for example, include only titles with 10 days or fewer remaining).
- Include expired titles (0 days or checkouts remaining), or include only expired titles.
Collection development policies
Including titles in pending carts
If you select No for this option, titles will be excluded from your plan if they've been added to a cart that you haven't purchased yet.
Excluding certain audiences or languages
Click the audience or language you want to exclude (or press Ctrl or Command, then click to select multiple items). Then, select the single right arrow to move the item to the excluded box.
Circulation activity
This section lets you include titles based on their checkouts and active holds. You can choose to include checkouts from the last 12 months or all time.
Note: These criteria are optional. You can leave the fields blank to include titles with any number of checkouts or holds.
Automate carts
Generating carts automatically
Optionally, you can have Metered Access Manager generate carts on a schedule you choose. If you want to generate automatic carts, make sure your plan criteria are as specific as possible. Your carts may be too large to open in Marketplace if your criteria are too broad.
Even if Metered Access Manager generates carts automatically, you can view your plan and add titles to carts manually anytime.
We recommend viewing plans or generating carts at least once a week to stay on top of demand.
Using an internal purchase order ID
This field is optional and for your records only. The internal purchase order ID appears on invoices for carts created by your Metered Access Manager plan.
