Mobilizing Churches for Cross-Cultural Outreach: A Study of Mission-Active Churches in the Churches of God, General Conference

ebook
The Churches of God, General Conference was birthed from a German Reformed tradition in the first quarter of the 19th century. It began as an ethnic church in the United States. Domestic missionary zeal eventually resulted in more than 2,500 churches being established across the country. However, seventy years passed before the first missionary was sent overseas by this evangelical denomination. This overseas involvement remained small and concentrated in three countries for almost a century until a renewed focus on cross-cultural ministry launched in 1994. Since then, the overseas ministry has grown in new as well as old fields with an increased interest and involvement by churches in the United States. This research was undertaken for the purpose of discovering what factors lead some churches in the denomination to excel more than others in cross-cultural missions participation.
